Lawrence Celestino booked a seat at the Faldo Series Asia Grand Final via a wire-to-wire victory in the second Faldo Series Philippines Championship at TAT Filipinas Golf Club in San Pedro, Laguna recently.
After taking the first-round lead, Celestino matched par then scored a 75 in the final round to finish at 223 for a three-stroke win over Agustin Mata.
Mata claimed the boys’ 16-under title and will join Celestino at the Grand Finals in China to be hosted by Nick Faldo at Mission Hill Golf Club next March.
Princess Superal, 13, topped the girls’ category to claim the third and final automatic qualifying spot at Mission Hills.
She posted a 235 total, five strokes ahead of Mia Legaspi, for her third straight triumph since reigning in her age-group in the Asia-Pacific meet in Bangalore, India.
More than 50 joined the Philippine qualifying at TAT Filipinas but last year’s winner Jobim Carlos was not among them after opting to play in Singapore along with the other members of the ICTSI pool.
The Faldo Series served as the seventh leg of the ICTSI Jungolf Summer Circuit organized by the Junior Golf Foundation of the Philippines which is also sponsored by Philippine Airlines, Pancake House Group, Teriyaki Boy and Sizzilin Pepper as major sponsors. The other sponsors are Dynamic Sports and Leisure Corp., McDonald’s, Smart, Golf Depot, and Pioneer Insurance.
Underwritten by six-time Major winner Faldo, the Faldo Series Asia is supported by major partners ISPS, Mission Hills and The R&A as well as official golf wear partner Alpine Creations. It is also endorsed by the Asian Tour and the Asia Pacific Golf Federation (APGC).
